Sunset High School Alumni Association
Statement of Purpose

The Sunset High School Alumni Association was formed in the summer of 2000 to advance continuing interest in Sunset High School as one of Dallas' important institutions and to champion its historic significance through its, graduates, its physical facilities, and its students.

Further, it is a goal of the association to preserve Sunset High School's role as an important educational and social venue in northern and western Oak Cliff.

Through a series of events and activities the association intends to recognize the achievements of current and former students of Sunset High School, along with those of its faculty, its staff, and their predecessors.

Additionally, the Sunset High School Alumni Association will endeavor to insure a continuing place of public education and gathering for the people of Oak Cliff by advocating continuation of exemplary academic, athletic, and other co-curricular activities at Sunset.

Through contributions and fund raising efforts, the association will promote an on-going pride in attendance at Sunset High School and will celebrate its role in the growth of Dallas and the North Texas region.  In particular, the association will develop funding for the betterment of Sunset High School and its students.
As we remember these words spoken so well by alumnus & Sunset teacher
Dr.  H. H. Johns, Jr. '35 at every Homecoming since 1952,
we are still driven by the Spirit of Sunset...

"I am the Spirit of Sunset. I am the symbol of the heritage of splendid achievement and fine people who have made Sunset what it is today. You who are students should strive to develop into individuals of whom Sunset can be proud, remembering always our motto, 'Spirit, Knowledge, Friendship'. You will increase your knowledge and your power to reason. You will develop and keep throughout your life worthy and true friendships with other Bisons. You will uphold the Bison tradition of good sportsmanship, fighting hard but fairly; seeking not self-glory, but glory for Sunset High School. On the playing field of life, I, the spirit of Sunset, will be with you. Sunset shall emerge triumphant now and forever".
