Sunset Alumni,
This page was created Sunday, December 9th when we received news regarding a Bison and knew you would want to know. This is not just any Bison. This 91 year old has possibly made an impact on more of our lives than any other person in the history of Sunset. His name is Dr. H. H. Johns, Jr. '35. That's right, the voice of Bison Speaks for more than 50 years! The news was that Dr. Johns was having some medical problems and was in a rehab hospital in Dallas. We thought this would be a good time for Dr. Johns to hear the Bison speak too, in the form of get well / encouragement cards from us. We learned today that Dr. Johns has gone to be with his Lord. One of our Board Members visited Dr. Johns last Saturday. We were told that during that visit, Dr. Johns love for Sunset, her students and alumni was so evident.
The arrangments are as follows:
Thursday, December 13, 2007
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM
Rosary will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Friday, December 14, 2007
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM also at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel.
Please be in prayer for his relatives during this time.
*Special thanks to Ron Harris '56 for Dr. Johns senior photo.
Voice of the Bison Speaks
Dr. Henry Hester "Johnny" Johns, Jr. '35
"I am the Spirit of Sunset. I am the symbol of the heritage of splendid achievement and fine people who have made Sunset what it is today. You who are students should strive to develop into individuals of whom Sunset can be proud, remembering always our motto, 'Spirit, Knowledge, Friendship'. You will increase your knowledge and your power to reason. You will develop and keep throughout your life worthy and true friendships with other Bison. You will uphold the Bison tradition of good sportsmanship, fighting hard but fairly; seeking not self-glory, but glory for Sunset High School. On the playing field of life, I, the spirit of Sunset, will be with you. Sunset shall emerge triumphant now and forever".
May we never forget these words of Dr. Johns and how majestically he inspired us with them.
